Trevin Wax has a great post on the disaster at the VMA's involving Miley Cyrus. Here's a short excerpt:
"I weep for the little girl who gave us Hanna Monatana and became a role model to millions of little girls across America. I weep for the lostness of a girl who doesn't see herself stumbling around in the dark. I weep for the news channels that profit from their all-day coverage of a young woman spiraling out of control. I weep for the American Idol culture that promises glitter and gold to children, then chews them up and spits them out"
A couple of questions I've been wrestling with in my head:

1.) Parents, why is fame one of our secret dreams for our children? Rather than making their name known in the world, could we not hope, dream, and pray that our children would make Jesus' name known?
2.) I didn't watch the VMA's but I've seen a few pictures. Why are the male performers like "One Direction" in suits and ties, but the female performers dressed in next to nothing? What does that say about our culture's view of women? What kind of message does that send to little girls? I'll answer the last one--it says "you're only worth something to us if you're sexy. Your talents aren't enough, you must use sex to sell"
