Military Appreciation Night At Friday Football Game In Romeoville

All veterans will be given free entry, a free meal ticket, and will be recognized throughout the game, the district said.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Romeoville High School will host a Military Appreciation Night at the home football game on Friday vs. West Aurora High School, the district said in a news release.

All veterans will be given free entry, a free meal ticket, and will be recognized throughout the game, the district said. Members of the Illinois National Guard will be present, and during the national anthem, a large garrison flag will be displayed on the field by the Romeoville HS United States Marine Corps JROTC.

The Romeoville football team will also wear special military-themed jerseys, sponsored by the Illinois National Guard.

Festivities will begin at 6:30 pm., before the kickoff of the varsity game.

U.S. Army Sgt. Jerome Zdancewicz of Romeoville will be the special guest of honor, the district said. Zdancewicz served in the Army 7th Calvary Regiment as a Special Forces Sergeant. He
sustained injuries during combat while serving in Vietnam in 1969, according to the district.

He was re-stationed to Fort Sheridan, before he left the Army in 1970. This year, Zdancewicz received his two Purple Hearts, 50 years after his service to the United States. Zdancewicz is also an active member of the local American Legion Post 52.
