ROMEOVILLE, IL — Nathan Kaptena of Wilmington, died unexpectedly on Aug. 14, 2023, at the age of 35.
He will be lovingly remembered by his parents: Jody & Raymond Kaptena, brother: Matthew Kaptena, sisters: Erica Moreno (Jorge), Alison Kaptena (Ryan), & grandmother: Necia Dickerman. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews: Alaina, Kaitlyn, Austin, Mason, Noah, Owen and Evan, as well as many other relatives and friends.
According to his obituary, Nathan served in the US Army during the Iraq War from 2006 to 2014, as a Transportation Management Coordinator directing convoys while stationed in Kuwait. Nathan was in the 940th Transportation Detachment out of Fort Sheridan, and was deployed in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.

Nathan was a hero to our country, family, and friends and will be remembered as such. He was known for his quirkiness, love of music, video games and cold beer. His passion for music allowed him to become a self-taught pianist. He dreamed of becoming a video game designer and teaching piano lessons. His loving heart and infectious laugh will never be forgotten.
He will be put to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. Reception to follow, at Abundant Life Fellowship, 23632 Route 113 in Wilmington.
