Plainfield Man With 'Violent Tendencies' Denied Release After Romeoville Bar Attack: Prosecutors

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Pre-trial release was denied for a Plainfield man after aggravated battery charges stemming from an incident at On The Rocks in Romeoville on Aug. 15, according to the Will County State's Attorney's Office.

Christopher Conway, 35, is facing charges of aggravated battery in a public place and domestic battery.

Romeoville Police said officers responded at 12:59 a.m. on Aug. 15 for a reported domestic battery at the business, at 350 S. Budler Road.

Officers spoke to a woman who said that during an argument, Conway had grabbed her by the throat and pushed her into a bush, police said. Her account was corroborated by witness statements, and she had visible markings on her throat, according to police.

Conway was taken into custody, and during the arrest, officers found a controlled substance inside his wallet. Charges were originally approved for possession of a controlled substance and aggravated domestic battery, and he was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

The Will County State's Attorney's Office said the petition to deny pre-trial release was granted.

According to court documents, an "enhanced class 4 sentence" will be sought for the domestic battery charge because of Conway's prior conviction of domestic battery in Livingston County.

Conway also currently has pending cases for an aggravated DUI and criminal damage to property.

"The defendant has a prone of violent tendencies when drinking of being abusive to his partners," court documents state. "Despite his pending cases and other domestic case being dismissed, he continues to behave in a manner which put the community and his loved ones at risk of harm."

A hearing on pre-trial release will be held on Sept. 8.
