Quinn Signs Bills into Law During Visit to Lewis University
The new laws protect landlords, homeowners.

Gov. Pat Quinn signed two bills into law Tuesday, Aug. 2, on ’s main Romeoville campus: Senate Bill 1766, which enables landlords to evict tenants who commit serious crimes on rental property, and House Bill 3034, which helps protect homeowners who are trying to recover after a natural disaster.
Quinn, State Sen. A.J. Wilhelmi (D-43), Reps. Ann Williams (D-11) and Dennis Reboletti (R-46), Joliet Mayor Thomas Giarrante, Secretary of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Brent Adams and other area officials were welcomed by Br. James Gaffney, FSC, president of Lewis University.
“On behalf of Lewis University, welcome back to campus, Gov. Quinn, and thank you for your leadership and support of legislation which promotes solidarity, social responsibility and the common good,” Gaffney said.

“It’s good to be back at Lewis University, it’s a special place,” Quinn said, continuing, “Consumer protection and protecting our neighborhoods is important to all great cities like Joliet, the fourth largest city in Illinois."
Quinn also thanked Gaffney for his leadership and because Lewis University is an institution “that promotes social justice and believes in the common good,” invited him to participate in the bill signing. SB 1766 will go into effect immediately and HB 3034 will go into effect Jan. 1, 2012.
