Retired Joliet Firefighter Receives Letter With White Powder in It
A fire department hazardous materials team determined Thursday that the substance was not harmful.
A hazardous materials crew investigated a white, powdery substance found in an anonymous letter sent to a retired Joliet Fire Department lieutenant Thursday, according to a Herald-News report.
The substance was found to be non-toxic, but the Joliet Fire Department closed down Infantry Drive, from Black Road to Ingalls Avenue, for safety purposes for about 90 minutes a little before noon, the report stated.
The harmless, geltain-based powder was in an election-related letter sent to Joliet Fire Department Lt. Todd Wooten, the report stated. Wooten, who has had haz-mat training, discovered the substance once he began reading the letter and called 911 immediately, the report added.
