RHS Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

Fifteen sports standouts made commitments to colleges and universities on Wednesday.

Fifteen athletes signed letters of intent Wednesday to compete for various colleges and universities throughout the country.

Latasha Fizer, who played both middle and outside hitter for the Lady Spartan volleyball squad, will head to Lincoln College in Lincoln, Illinois. The 2011 team MVP and all conference player led the team in kills (183) and blocks (61.)

Ewelina Szwed, who has played doubles on the RHS varsity tennis team since joining the varsity in the middle of her sophomore year, will play for University if St. Francis in Joliet. She and her doubles teammates won 29 of the 50 matches she played in during her career.

Thirteen Spartans will continue playing football at the college level.

  • Scott Hughes (6-0 185 pound defensive/offensive lineman) Knox College
  • Mike Middleton (5-6 175 pound running back) Simpson College
  • Tim Welch (5-9 155 pound defensive back/receiver) Dubuque Univ.
  • Ryan Hammond (6-2 195 pound linebacker) Aurora University
  • Josh Owens (6-0 230 pound offensive lineman) Benedictine University
  • Miles White (5-10 180 pound receiver) Dubuque Univ.
