Romeoville Awarded $400K Grant For Romeo Crossing Community Park
Romeoville's grant was among $30.3 million in grants for 87 local park projects across the state.
ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Village of Romeoville was awarded $400,000 for Romeo Crossing Community Park through the state's Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program, according to a release from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

“Investments in our local parks are investments in our communities,” Gov. J.B. Pritzker said in a news release. “Park projects don’t just create jobs and boost local economic development — they open the gateway for a healthier, happier Illinois. Every family in our state deserves nearby access to outdoor public spaces where they can gather with their friends and neighbors — and enjoy some sunshine, too.”

OSLAD grants can provide up to half of a project’s funds and, when combined with the investment of local matching funds, will support more than $56 million in local park development projects and land acquisitions statewide, a release states.
“Investments in our local parks make it easier for families and recreation enthusiasts to enjoy these outdoor spaces and helps our communities thrive,” said State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel. “These grants will allow our parks to make critical improvements, prioritizing the overall well-being of our residents and visitors.”

“Investing in recreation and conservation is an investment in our communities and the future,” said Loughran Cappel. “I encourage residents to get outside and check out all our area has to offer.”
Other grants in Will County include:
- $400,000 for Channahon Park District, Tomahawk Aquatic Center
- $174,000 for Frankfort Park District, redevelopment of Windy Hill Park
- $400,000 for New Lenox Community Park District, Hibernia Park development phase 2
- $400,000 for Plainfield Park District, redevelopment of Van Horn Woods
