Romeoville OKs Electronic Payments for Bail, Fines

If you get locked up in Romeoville, you've got some more options when it comes to posting bail.

On Wednesday, village board members signed off on a deal that will allow the Romeoville Police Department to accept bail and other transactions electronically.

The board approved a five-year agreement with Indiana-based Government Payment Services (GPS) Inc. Cardholders will be able to use credit and debit cards to make payments using the GPS system via www.govpaynow.com. The system will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In exchange for the convenience of making the payments online, users will incur a 7 percent fee. So, a user paying a $300 bond or fine would pay a total of $321, according to village documents.
