Romeoville Library Will Close Friday

Renovated building will reopen to the public June 18

The Romeoville branch of the White Oak Library District will close tomorrow, June 1, to prepare for the facility’s grand reopening June 18. The library is located at 201 W. Normantown Road.

Scott Pointon, director of the White Oak Library District, said the Romeoville branch was in its final stages of renovation last week.

“The upstairs has progressed to final finishes (paint, carpet, tile, wood trim, etc),” Pointon said.  “Outside, the landscaping is going in and the last of the remaining details are being completed.”

Contractors have been working to install furniture, polish floors and replace carpeting on the building’s lower level and complete new finishes in the elevator, Pointon added.

Final village inspections are planned today on the renovation project, which involved much more than painting and polishing.

“We will also be moving the circulation department and the children’s department (including all of the children’s books and materials) upstairs to their permanent homes and then putting the lower level back into its intended layout once circulation and the children’s departments are moved,” Pointon said.

Members of the Friends of the Library will greet patrons when the facility reopens Monday, June 18, and the Romeoville Chamber of Commerce will hold a ceremonial ribbon cutting on June 21.

While the library in Romeoville is closed, patrons may visit the White Oak Library District's Crest Hill Branch at 1298 Theodore St., Crest Hill or the Lockport Branch, which is currently located in the Gaylord Building at 200 W. 8th St., Lockport.
