Romeoville, Lockport Township Partner for Community Garden

Residents can reserve plots starting Feb. 1.

The Village of Romeoville Parks and Recreation Department and Lockport Township Park District are partnering to offer residents the chance to test their green thumbs out with a community garden.

The Cooperative Community Gardens Program will be offered this spring at Sunset Park, 729 Murphy Drive.

Residents will be able to reserve 10'x10' plots to grow fruits and vegetables for their families for $20 starting Feb. 6 to 12; non-residents ($40) will be able to sign up Feb. 13 to 28. Previous community garden participants will get early bird registration from Feb. 1 to 5. A $25 cash deposit is also required.

The growing season is from April 15 to Oct. 28, and all landscape waste, stakes and fencing must be removed by Nov. 1. Participants will have key access to their plots.
