Romeoville Man Charged With Felony After Spitting On Cop: Police

The man is charged with aggravated battery to a peace officers and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — A Romeoville man has been charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer after spitting on an officer, Romeoville Police said.

Alexis Gil, 28, is charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

Police said they responded to a welfare check at 3:20 a.m. on May 31 on Gleneagle Court. Gil was reported to be exhibiting "increasingly erratic behavior," police said.

Officers tried to speak with Gil and encouraged him to seek medical evaluation, but he refused and continued acting disorderly, including damaging property and entering neighboring yards, police told Patch.

Gil then became verbally and physically aggressive, "lunging toward officers in an apparent attempt to provoke a reaction and making movements toward an officer’s holstered Taser," police said.

Officers attempted to detain him for safety reasons, and he resisted and spit on an officer during the struggle, according to police.

Gil was taken into custody without reported injury and taken to the hospital for evaluation.
