Romeoville MS Wins Regional Basketball Title

The team at Martinez Middle School is one win away from playing in the state quarterfinals.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Martinez Middle School (Romeoville) is one win away from playing in the IESA Class 7-4A state quarterfinals after knocking off top-seeded Hufford Junior High of Joliet 46-44 Tuesday night to win a regional title.

The night before, the Vikings (13-11) surprised Lukancic Middle School 44-39.

Joseph Adum (16 points), Naji Mason-Toles (14 points) and Ceasar Barraza (13 points) all hit double figures in a balanced attack. The Vikings built a 23-16 halftime lead and led 35-28 after three quarters.

Martinez will meet either Minooka or Channahon at the Joliet Washington sectional 6:30 p.m. Feb. 3.

Other team members include David Vargas, Jaden Holgado, Alen Mujinovic, Elijah Quinones, Jaden Battle, Mark Marrota, Charles Cobbins, Dominick Miller, Nic Kolze, and Alan Jones.
