"The safety checks will be used to detect persons who are operating a motor vehicle with defective equipment, without a valid driver's license or permit, without proof of insurance, not in compliance with occupant protection laws, or while under the influence of alcohol or drugs," Turvey said.
Police will conduct checks at locations and hours that will provide the maximum opportunity for the detection and apprehension of motorists who driver under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
