Romeoville Police Save Life of Man Overdosing on Heroin

The 40-year-old man received two doses of Narcan, which helped reverse the overdose.

A 40-year-old man who was overdosing on heroin was saved by the use of Narcan from Romeoville police and firefighters.

At around 5:13 p.m. Thursday, May 5, the Romeoville Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Pullman for a man who had just injected himself with heroin, according to the department. Officer Kyle Long began CPR while Officer Christopher Swiatek gave the man a dose of Narcan.

Police say the man began to show signs of reviving and officers continued CPR until the Romeoville Fire Department arrived, who then administered another dose of Narcan. The man then started breathing on his own.

“Officer Long and Officer Swiatek are commended for the dedication and professionalism they displayed while administering first aid to a subject in critical condition. Their efforts likely saved the victim’s life,” Romeoville Police Department Commander John Ferdinardo said in a press release.
