Romeoville Police Will 'Buy Back' Guns, April 11
Police will pay $60 cash on the spot for each gun that is turned in, no questions asked.

Residents will have a chance to turn in firearms from Uzis to Aaron Burr’s dueling pistols to Romeoville police -- no questions asked.
Police will pay $60 cash for each firearm that is turned in between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at the Romeoville Police Department,1050 W Romeo Road.
Citizens can remain anonymous and will not face any penalties for unlawful firearms. Police officers across the country see many instances where suspects, especially juveniles, commit a crime with an older weapon that the rightful owner no longer uses, has forgotten about or simply has lost track of.

Romeoville police hope to reduce the amount of firearms within the community that fall into this category. The firearms may include guns that were previously owned by a deceased relative or were left in the home by a former resident.
Those turning in guns will be paid $60 cash for each weapon turned in. Ammunition may turned in as well, but there will no payment to citizens turning in ammunition only.

Firearms should be unloaded and placed in a bag or other container and transported in the trunk or rear area of vehicles. Residents unfamiliar with guns should not try to unload or tamper with the firearms in any way.
Once residents arrive at the police department, an officer will take possession the firearms. No questions will be asked of the person turning in the weapon or weapons.
Residents who wish to turn in firearms but have no transportation or prefer to have a police officer handle the weapon, should call the Romeoville Police Department and assistance will be provided on a case-by-case basis.
