Romeoville Receives Federal Funding For Sanitary Lift Station Work
Congresswoman Lauren Underwood secured nearly $1 million to replace the Spangler sanitary lift station in Romeoville.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Romeoville received nearly $1 million in federal funding for sanitary sewer work, thanks to the help of Congresswoman Lauren Underwood.
The Democrat representative for the 14th District secured $959,757 for replacing the Spangler sanitary lift station, an essential part of the wastewater system. The station pumps water from residential homes and businesses up to the lines that bring the sewage to the treatment facility.
Romeoville's existing Spangler station is more than 60 years old and corroded, officials said. Its replacement will "protect the health of the 10,000 residents served by this station as well as the businesses around the site and public buildings including the library, school, and recreational facilities," reads a Tuesday news release.

"We are very thankful to Congresswoman Underwood for securing this funding for us," Mayor John Noak said in a statement. "Infrastructure is an exceedingly important part of any town and double so when it is infrastructure connected to public health."
The new station will have an increased pumping capacity, which will require running a larger main under Route 53 directly to the wastewater treatment facility. Officials said no road closures are anticipated as part of the project.

Equipment for the upgraded station will be stored in a small building and will include an on-site generator in case of a power outage.
The project will go out to bid in the next 60 days, with work expected to start in early summer. Construction should be completed by the end of the year, officials said.
"From my very first day in Congress, bringing federal resources home to the 14th District has been a top priority," Underwood said in a statement. "I am proud to have fought for funding that will make our community healthier, safer, and stronger."
