Romeoville Student Hoping to Attend Junior Olympics
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help raise money.
Romeoville, IL — A Romeoville High School sophomore has qualified to attend the United States Track and Field National Junior Olympics in California.
Amiri Buchanan will represent the Romeoville Spartans in throwing shot put and javelin. He is the only student to qualify from his school, according to his mom Anleeta Buchanan, who is a Special Education Math Teacher at Martinez Middle School.

However, the sudden trip will be costly, so a GoFundMe page has been set up to help defray the costs.
“We are seeking community help to send him as we cannot afford the sudden expense,” Buchanan said. “His coaches will not be traveling with him, so I have to stand in as chaperone and ‘coach mom.’”
