ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Romeoville Village Board has authorized an application for an Open Lands Acquisition and Development grant for the development of the Diocese property project at 400 W. Romeo Road.
At its Aug. 18 board meeting, the Village Board authorized the Parks and Recreation Department to apply for a $400,000 grant for the project.
The Village has several plans for the property, but this grant would be for phase 3 of the project.

Director of Parks and Recreation Kelly Rajzer said that the cost of the project would go toward an adaptive sports softball field, restroom and concession building, playground, challenge course, shelter, multi-purpose trails, a plaza, landscaping and restoration, and site furnishings and signage.
Rajzer said the Village has the potential to partner with a local agency on the adaptive sports field.

"This is very unique, this element," Rajzer said, adding that there are only 25 wheelchair softball fields across the country, including three in Illinois.
The grant must be submitted by Sept. 1, Rajzer said.
"This is something that is pretty special," Mayor John Noak said.
Noak said the rest of the park is still conceptual at this point.
