Romeoville Wins 'Best Tasting Water' Recognition

The South Suburban Water Works Association recently named the Village of Romeoville as the winner of "The Best Tasting Water in the South Suburbs."

A drinking water sample, produced by competing utilities from the south suburbs, was submitted and evaluated by a panel of  judges based on water clarity, odor and taste.

The Village of Romeoville continues to emphasize supplying high quality drinking water throughout the village and exceeds the requirements as mandated by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by implementing new technology to enhance the Village's water operations, according to a press release from the village.  

Over the last seven years, the Village has completed five ion exchange plants in order to improve the Village's water quality by reducing existing levels of radium in the drinking water below requirements mandated by the EPA.

Romeoville draws its water from a ground water supply consisting of five deep wells with pump settings of approximately 1,500 feet below the surface and seven shallow wells pumping 150- to 00 feet below the surface. The village pumps over 3.8 million gallons a day to over 50,000 residents in the suburb and nearby service areas, which totals over 1.4 billion gallons per year.

"We are proud of the accomplishments achieved and the quality drinking water provided to the residents. This award proves that our efforts to improve water quality have been recognized," said Mayor John Noak. "We commend the Public Works staff for taking a proactive approach in completing these improvements."
