Sister Wants Stacy Peterson Declared Dead

Cassandra Cales said she plans to file paperwork to have missing mom declared legally dead.

Almost seven years after Stacy Peterson disappeared, her sister said she plans to file paperwork with the state to have the missing Bolingbrook mom declared legally dead.

Peterson, who was 23 when she vanished, was the fourth wife of former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson. He was convicted in 2012 of first-degree murder in the death of third wife Kathleen Savio andsentenced last year to 38 years in prison without parole.

Cales told the Southtown Star she wants to have Stacy declared legally dead to make it known that she did not run off, as Drew Peterson has claimed. She told the paper she plans to take action by the end of the year, but hasn’t given up on justice for Stacy — including a trial for her murder.

Stacy disappeared on Oct. 28, 2007. During Drew Peterson’s 2012 trial, a Wheaton attorney testified that prior to her disappearance, Stacy had asked him if she could get more money out of a divorce if she threatened to reveal that Peterson had killed Kathleen Savio.

Drew Peterson has never been charged in connection with Stacy’s disappearance. Numerous searches have failed to yield any trace of the missing mother.
