Snow Parking: Know Romeoville's Winter Weather Rules

Winter is coming: Make sure you're prepared.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — It's not even Thanksgiving yet, but the Chicago area has already gotten a preview of winter weather, with mid-December-like temperatures and the first snowfall of the season. As the weather gets colder, it's a good idea to brush up on local rules when it comes to snowfall.

In 2014, the Village of Romeoville passed an odd-even ordinance limiting on-street parking to help public works staff clear the roads after a snowfall. The rules take effect anytime there's an accumulation of 2 inches of snow or more, and here's how it works:

  • Odd/even street parking requires residents to park along the odd-numbered side of village streets on odd-numbered calendar days and on the even-numbered side of village streets on even numbered calendar days. The switch over time for odd-even parking is at 6 a.m.
  • Odd-even parking will go into effect upon the accumulation of 2 inches of snow on the village streets and will remain in effect until snow removal operations are complete.
  • The fine for snow-related parking violations will be $50
  • Officers will patrol village streets and immediately issue parking citations and a 24 hour tow notice to any vehicles found in violation of the odd-even parking ordinance.
  • Vehicles parked on streets designated as parking prohibited after two inches of snow fall will be ticketed and towed immediately.
  • Parking citations for blocking the sidewalk will not be issued until the snow removal operations are complete.
