Softball: Romeoville Dominates Argo, Sweeps Doubleheader
Romeoville 9-7, Argo 1-2. Two home runs and seven RBI by Jami Shawmeker help lift the Spartans to an 8-1 mark on the season.
Touching All the Bases: Romeoville dominated on offense, taking advantage of Argo’s mishaps on defense to score 16 runs in the doubleheader Saturday at Romeoville. Pitcher Melissa Guzior hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second of game one to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead. They never trailed from that point on in either contest.
Patch’s MVP: Jami Shawmeker, Romeoville. Shawmeker went a combined 3-for-7 in the two games. She had two home runs—one of them being a grand slam—and seven RBI total. She was very solid on defense at first, taking over after Michelle Spillman left the game with a shin injury during a collision in game one.
Romeoville’s Leaders: In addition to Shawmeker: Pitcher Melissa Guzior hit a two-run homer in game one and was solid on the mound, allowing only two runs. Game two pitcher Elaina Caron was 6-for-7 hitting combined and was excellent as the shortstop in game one. She had a no-hitter through five innings in game two and struck out eight.

Quotable: Romeoville coach Christina Douglas: “We’re finally putting it all together as a team.”
