State to Upgrade Route 53 at Romeoville HS Entrance

The state of Illinois has earmarked $1.8 million to rebuild the intersection of Illinois 53 and Material Road -- at the entrance of Romeoville High School -- so that turn lanes can be added, Gov. Pat Quinn announced Thursday.

The money is part of Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which provides state money for infrastructure improvements and other projects that create jobs.

In this case, the money will be used to widen and reconstruct the intersection so turn lanes and new traffic signals can be added, according a news release issued on the job.
 
P.T. Ferro Construction Co. of Joliet, the lowest of three bidders, was awarded the contract.

“These construction projects will improve Route 53 in Romeoville and upgrade traffic signals in various parts of Will County,” Quinn said in the release. “They will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy.”

The Romeoville project is one of several announced for Will County, adding up to more than $6.6 million in work, the release said.

P.T. Ferro also won a $2.3 million contract to widen and reconstruct the 143rd Street and Lemont Road intersection in Homer Glen. Manhattan-Monee Road, from Schoolhouse Road to Center Road in Manhattan and Green Garden Townships, will be resurfaced and LED traffic lights will be installed at locations in Bolingbrook, Joliet and other parts of Will County, the release said.
