Statement of Route 53 Closure

At approximately 8:05 p.m. on March 5, 2026, the Romeoville Police Department responded to a traffic crash near the intersection of Independence Boulevard and Alexander Circle. The crash involved a vehicle striking a pedestrian, resulting in a fatality. The Romeoville Police Department traffic unit continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

Independence Boulevard remains closed during the investigation, with southbound traffic shut down at Normantown Road and northbound traffic closed at Belmont Drive.
