Stolen Semi-Automatic Handgun Seized in Bolingbrook Traffic Stop: Police

The weapon was reported stolen after a burglary in Naperville, police said.

A Romeoville 19-year-old faces felony charges after police recovered an allegedly stolen handgun in his vehicle during a traffic stop early Wednesday.

Jamil Gordon, 19, was arrested after being stopped at 2:34 a.m. at Route 53 and I-55, Bolingbrook police said.

A Bolingbrook officer stopped Gordon’s 2005 Pontiac after seeing it heading south on Route 53 with an obstructed windshield, police said.

During the stop, the officer detected “a distinct odor of burnt cannabis emitting from the interior of the vehicle and observed cannabis residue on the floor of the vehicle,” police said.

Gordon was also unable to produce either his driver’s license or proof of insurance, according to police.

Upon further investigation, officers recovered 5.8 grams of cannabis, $2,841 in cash and a loaded Desert Eagle 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the vehicle, police said. The gun had been reported stolen after a burglary in Naperville, according to police.

Gordon was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis under 30 grams, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, driving an uninsured vehicle and driving a vehicle with an obstructed windshield, police said.

Three other teenage occupants of the vehicle were released without charges, police said, and the Pontiac was impounded.
