Trial Date Set for Man Charged with Romeoville Teen's Murder

A trial date has been set for the Cicero man accused of gunning down a Romeoville teen as she sat in her car, ready to head to school, on a cold February morning. Prosecutors allege he also shot and injured Briana Valle’s mother, 33-year-old Alicia Guerrero.
Erick Maya, 24, will go to trial Sept. 8 on charges of murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon in the Feb. 13 shooting.

Maya is accused of shooting Valle twice in the head at point-blank range before turning the gun on Guerrero, shooting her in the neck. Police said Maya and Valle had previously dated, although court records show that Guerrero had taken out and order of protection against Maya after the pair broke up.
