Two New Redevelopment Projects Coming to Romeoville

Concept plans are for two challenging sites

The Romeoville Village Board reviewed concept plans for two challenging sites: a new U-Haul self-storage building at the corner of Gaskin Drive and Weber Road and a redevelopment of the old 84 Lumber site at 1400 Independence Drive, near the corner of Joliet Rd and Route 53.

The proposed U-Haul building would be three stories tall and house 626 rental lockers in approximately 46,000 square feet of space. There would be 457 climate controlled lockers and 169 non-climate controlled lockers, ranging in size from 5’x5’ up to 15’x20’. The building would be precast construction with an office/showroom on the southwest corner facing Weber and would have 20 parking spaces for rental trucks/trailers and 15 parking spaces for customers. This would join with the pre-existing adjacent storage facility that U-Haul purchased in 2017.

Ramco Transportation’s project at 1400 Independence would bring the site up to current code and put a new façade on the building.

“We’re excited to be turning around two challenging sites on our major corridors,” stated Mayor John Noak. “New buildings and new businesses are always a positive for the local economy.”

Both projects are anticipated to begin construction next year after final approval. Each site is anticipated to undergo millions of dollars in improvements.
