Land Use Department Environmental Educator Joan O’Keefe specifically cited Martinez Middle School’s Ecology Club members for their Recycled Art Fair, their edible garden and their efforts to collect used books as well as the Hermansen Elementary School SOLARR (Students Offering Lessons About Renewable Resources) Club for sponsoring an Energy Fair.
While Tibbott’s community garden and several other initiatives played a key role in their selection as an Earth Flag winner, O’Keefe praised Dave Mertes’ 5th graders for their ongoing efforts in composting and other energy saving initiatives.
Bolingbrook High School received an Earth Flag because of efforts by the school’s Garden Club to launch an edible garden as well as beautification of interior courtyards.
