Valley View Schools Plan for Red Ribbon Week: 'A Healthy Me is Drug Free'

Several Valley View School District 365U schools are preparing for RedRibbon Week next week.

The week is designed to promote a drug free lifestyle as well as to promote kindness.

Lukancic Middle School in Romeoville will hold a grade level “Penny War” throughout the week with donations going to local food pantries. A winner will be determined based on points with each penny worth one point. Students may “sabotage” other grade levels by donating a quarter (negative 5 points) or dollar bills (negative 100 points).

Other Lukancic activities include the signing of paper footballs to go along with the theme “One Goal, Bully Free—Drug Free,” Post-It Notes placed on student lockers with positive messages and various “clothing days”: Team Sport/College Day on Oct. 28, Decade Day on Oct. 29, Favorite Role Model/Hero Day on Oct. 30, White-Out to Wipeout Day on Oct. 31 and Dress Crazy Day on Nov. 1.

Students at Brooks Middle School in Bolingbrook will participate in a coloring contest, positive Sticky Notes and much more including “Don’t Let Your Mummy Down, Make Good Choices” (wear white) Day Oct. 28, “Don’t Be Ghoulish, Drugs Are Foolish (wear red) Day Oct. 29, “Don’t Get Caught in the Web of Bad Choices (dress for success) Day Oct. 30, “Don’t Let Bad Choices Haunt Your Future (college gear) Day on Oct. 31, and “Don’t Be Tricked, Drugs are No Treat Day on Nov. 1.

At R.C. Hill Elementary School in Romeoville, students will tie redribbons around trees and on railings near the school and will also have themes each day. Oct. 28 is “Healthy Lifestyle: Wear Red to Show Drug-Free Support” day. Oct. 29 is “Healthy Physical Activity” day. Oct. 30 is “Healthy Friendships” day. Oct. 31 is “Healthy Eating Habits” day. And Nov. 1 is “Healthy Mind” day.

“A Healthy Me is Drug Free” is the theme at Tibbott Elementary School where students will receive red ribbons and 3rd through 5th graders will be asked to sign a pledge that says “Instead of drugs, I will ______.”

Oct. 28 is “No Excuses, Don’t Do Drugs” day (Tibbott “no excuses” t-shirt). Oct. 29 is “Team Up Against Drugs” day (favorite team shirt or jersey).Oct. 30 is “Put a Cap on Drugs” day (favorite hat). Oct. 31 is “Say Boo to Drugs” day (costumes). Nov. 1 is “College Bound and Drug Free” day (college t-shirts).
