Will County Prosecutor Appointed To McAsey's Seat
State Rep. Emily McAsey stepped down earlier this month.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Will County prosecutor John Connor is the newest Illinois state representative. On Saturday, Connor was appointed to serve out the year-and-a-half left in Rep. Emily McAsey's term after the 85th District Democrat stepped down earlier this month.
Connor, a Lockport resident, was one of four candidates seeking the position after McAsey announced she was moving out of state due to her husband's new job. Connor's boss, Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow, congratulated him on social media Saturday, writing, "The State of Illinois is on the edge of a cliff right now, and we need people like John Connor, who are intelligent and forceful, to make tough decisions and get this state back on track."
Connor has been involved in high-profile Will County murder cases including that of former Bolingbrook Police Sgt. Drew Peterson, convicted of killing third wife Kathleen Savio as well as trying to order a hit on Glasgow, and Christopher Vaughn, an Oswego man serving four life sentences for the 2007 murders of his wife and children.

He told the Daily Herald he's eager to get started as he heads to Springfield Monday for a special session aimed at approving a state budget before a June 30 deadline. "I'll roll my sleeves up and I'll have to dive in," Connor said, calling the task "daunting."
