1-Legged Amputee Run Over By Rolling Toolbox At Chicagoland Speedway: Lawsuit

The man was in the racetrack's "pit corral" when he was hit by the runaway toolbox, the lawsuit said.

A one-legged amputee was struck by a runaway rolling toolbox at Chicagoland Speedway, according to a lawsuit filed in Will County court.

Michael Helmsletler was in the “Fan Zone Pit Pass area,” when he was run over by the rolling toolbox in September, the lawsuit said. The suit also described the location as the “pit corral” and said Helmsletler had “access to the pit areas and garages where racecars are kept and maintained.”

The toolbox was “located uphill from the pedestrian path through the pit corral (and) rolled down a hill and ran (Helmsletler) over causing injury to his leg,” the lawsuit said.
