4-Year-Old Boy Remembered After Sudden Death

Preschool classmates, along with family and friends, gathered Friday to honor the memory of 4-year-old Cash Gettys, who died suddenly Dec. 14. He was born June 12, 2011.

Cash reportedly had a bacterial infection that spread to his bloodstream, causing sepsis.

Cash attended preschool at Trinity Christian School in Shorewood. To honor his memory, the preschool kids released green balloons Friday afternoon.

Cash was an energetic and joyful boy, according to his obituary. He enjoyed playing with cars, truck and tractors. He also loved to make music with his guitar and drum set.

“He was always smiling and laughing and he was always full of energy. He was a kid who loved being outside playing baseball,” Zain Gettys, Cash’s father, told The Herald-News. “We are now heartbroken and devastated and our world has forever changed.”

According to his obituary, Cash is survived by his loving parents; Christina Humphries and Zain Gettys, grandparents; Beverly & Gerard Zavala and Michael & Joslyn Gettys, great-grandparents; Betty Humphries, Shirley Hutchings, Bonnie Gettys, aunts: Holly Gettys, Lauren Reyna, Megan Reyna, Brooke Zavala, Debbie (Clayton) Olsen, Cathy Hutchings Lorang, uncles; Wayne (Sandra) Humphries, Michael (Sherri) Humphries, Larry (Alicia) Humphries, Donald (Judy) Gettys, Jeffrey (Nita) Gettys, Tom Hutchings, cousins; Kain, Willow, Addyson, Jonathan, Samantha, Brianna, Joel, Amanda, Michael, Brandon, Danny, Angie, Matthew, Taylor, Anthony, Sydney, Dexter, Derek, Misty, Corrine (Danny), Cerena (Greg), Jim, Nick (Erin), Silas, Miles, Kyle, Austin, Matt, Missy, Adam, Alex, Alyssa, Krista, Olivia, Kendrick, Eli, Jim, Griffin, Kellcey, Lyndsey, Damian, Julian, Jeffery, Geena and many extended family members and even more friends. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents; Willie Dexter Humphries, James Raymond Hutchings, John Eli Gettys, Joyce Ann Pennington, Harold Pennington and aunt Donna DeMoss.
