SHOREWOOD, IL — It's been a few years since demolition crews tore down that old farmhouse along Black Road across the street from the Home Depot shopping center. Efforts by real estate brokers to draw more commercial development including more strip malls to the property never panned out.
But now the village of Shorewood is ready to review the new development plans and based on Thursday's annual state of the village speech, Shorewood Mayor Clarence "CC" DeBold believes the Black Road Apartments are going to be a good addition to his growing village of 18,000 people.
According to Mayor DeBold, the Black Road Apartments will consist of four multi-family buildings that feature 149 apartment units in total. There will be a community clubhouse as well as a fitness area for the residents to work out.
If people are for or against the development, they can show up at the Village Hall for a public hearing on May 6. Shorewood will have its planning and zoning commission meeting to review the proposal at the 7 p.m. meeting.
Joliet Patch will be bringing you a more in-depth story on the project later next week.
