Reckless Driver On Route 59 Puts His Hands On Waistband, Shorewood Police Deploy Their Tasers: Agency

SHOREWOOOD, IL — A motorist accused of driving like a maniac this week along Route 59 was tracked down by the Shorewood police officers and they deployed their tasers upon 42-year-old Randolph McCollum to gain his compliance and take him police custody.

Monday's incident happened at 4:31 p.m. in the 800 block Brook Forest Avenue, better known as Route 59. McCollom resides in Woodridge and he was arrested on aggravated DUI charges.

According to the incident summary, the Shorewood police officers were dispatched to the area near Route 59 near Black Road in reference to a reckless driving complaint.

WESCOM advised a white Ford weaved in and out of traffic, nearly striking multiple vehicles. WESCOM advised the vehicle entered the Speedway North parking lot.

The officers spotted the vehicle travel westbound Black Road and turn northbound onto Shorewood Drive and that was when the officers initiated a traffic stop, met with McCollum and escorted him out of the vehicle.

The arrest report showed the officers approached the passenger side of the vehicle and saw multiple cans of Monaco and one open shooter of Jose Quervo tequila in the
center counsel and passenger seat.

In time, McCollum began to place his hands near his waistband as the officers ordered McCollum to stop multiple times. The officers gained control of McCollum's hands and escorted him to the ground, the arrest report noted.

"McCollum continued to place his hands at his waistband while on the ground. Officers deployed their Taser and drive stunned McCollum. McCollum eventually complied and was placed in handcuffs," Shorewood police announced.

While speaking to McCollum the officers smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and observed McCollum's
eyes were bloodshot and glossy, the agency said.

The officers asked McCollum if he wanted to perform field sobriety test; he complied and failed. Officers advised McCollum of one final test and refused any additional test. McCollum was placed under arrest for Aggravated DUI and he was released on a notice to appear in Will County court.
