On Oct. 3, the Joliet West High School JROTC participated in Honor Flight Chicago. The mission of Honor Flight Chicago is to recognize WWII Veterans with a day of honor, remembrance and celebration from a proud and grateful nation.

The Tiger Battalion took a total of 99 cadets to Midway Airport on Oct. 3. “We were given our own section, where we would stand till around midnight welcoming home the WWII Veterans,” said JROTC student Stephanie Rodriguez.   “We cheered them on as they walked (more so as they rolled through on a wheel-chair) past us.”

The Joliet West JROTC provided these WWII Veterans with a warm welcome home.  “We all clapped and cheered and some of us began to shed tears due to the overwhelming emotion and pride of the veterans,” said Rodriguez.   “Honor Flight Chicago was one of the best experiences our cadets will ever have.”
