Dangerous Youth On E-Bikes Overtake Minooka School Bus: Shorewood Police Deeply Concerned With Minooka Teens

SHOREWOOD, IL — The Shorewood Police Department has issued a Facebook bulletin letting everyone know that two wild and reckless E-bike riders overtook a Minooka school bus this week as children were being dropped off the bus.

According to the police agency, on Monday, the two people pictured in the photos decided to illegally overtake a stopped school bus while students were actively being dropped off.

"While our agency is not currently seeking the public's help to identify these specific individuals, we are using this alarming incident to address a growing safety crisis in our community: the dangerous operation of e-bikes and electric micro mobility devices," Shorewood police advised.

"We want to acknowledge and highly applaud the administration of Minooka CCSD 201 for completely prohibiting these devices on all school campus grounds. However, we remain deeply concerned by the number of Minooka High School students traveling on high-risk rural roads from our jurisdiction to the Minooka High School South campus using various e-bikes. The actions captured in these images are clear, hazardous violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code. More than just a legal issue, this shows a complete disregard for student safety."

Shorewood police went on to explain "how the evolution of electric micro mobility has outpaced safety awareness ... Over the coming months, our department will be sharing educational resources to keep our residents, especially parents fully informed on these updated regulations. Please talk to your children about the rules of the road. Let’s work together through education and proactive intervention to prevent a tragedy."
