East Jefferson St. Closed Starting Thursday
The street will be closed for the construction of a railroad platform.

Jefferson Street east of Scott Street will be closed off starting Thursday for the construction of a railroad platform.
“This will be for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic,” the Joliet Police Department said in a statement released Friday. “The construction company will post detour signage in the area.”

In order to access Jefferson Street west of Eastern Avenue both pedestrians and vehicles will have to go north on Scott Street, turn right (east) on Van Buren and then south on Mayor Art Schultz Drive to Jefferson. Be aware that Mayor Art Schultz Drive will be closed from Clinton Street south to Van Buren Street.
The police department also included a map of the downtown street closings and tentative dates for both closings and openings as provided by city engineers.

“This will obviously create heavy traffic congestion in the downtown area especially during rush hour traffic times,” according to the police. “Please advise and plan your travels accordingly.”
