Entertainer Robert Mestas will be channeling Civil War general Robert E. Lee for an in depth interview at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at The Timbers of Shorewood, 1100 N. River Road.
Mestas of New Lenox will be portraying Lee in the first person, complete in costume, in order to present a unique insight into the mind of the Civil War general.
“Every story has two sides,” explains Mestas. “I offer audiences a different perspective into Robert E. Lee, one that isn’t taught in school.”
Mestas has been acting for nearly 18 years and has been performing as Lee for four years. His performance began as a small segment and has blossomed into a complete hour long show. He provides audiences with more than just history facts. Mestas also displays authentic Civil War artifacts that he has collected through the years that include guns, swords, and bullets.
Robert E. Lee, considered one of the most famous figures in American history, was a key General of the South during the Civil War. The 1829 Westpoint graduate began his extensive military career shortly after graduating and lasted until his surrender in 1865. Lee fought in more than nine major battles including The Battle of Gettysburg. Lee’s influence on his soldiers and society has left his voice ringing in the pages of American history forever.
