Every Steve Has His Day: Shorewood Rewind

This week, Shorewood was not heart-stoppingly exciting every second of every day.

About a month or so ago, Steve, a Shorewood Patch reader, weighed in with this opinion:

"Shorewood is not great nor do 'fantastic' things happen here."

Then, for the coup de grace, Steve said, "Screw Shorewood!!!!"

Now, we took exception to this. That's because we are fully aware of just how wonderful Shorewood is. In fact, it is undeniably the greatest place on earth and, arguably (if you choose to argue with those who believe in the existence of space people) the greatest place in the universe.

But then the other day we had a pretty uneventful police blotter about a lady named Kelly Simon. The police said she blew a stop sign and got arrested on a DuPage County warrant for driving under the influence.

We noted that the whole blotter was only "one thing and it's not even that interesting." And that's where Steve had us.

"See I told you interesting things don't happen in Shorewood," Steve wrote to us. "You said so yourself today ... not to mention you actually wrote a story about my comment on how nothing interesting or exciting happens in Shorewood."

Well, we here at the Shorewood Patch are big enough to admit when we're wrong. There is no getting around that it was a slow day in Shorewood. Touche, Steve. Well played.

But that does not mean there weren't tons of other hair-raising, amazing things afoot in Shorewood throughout the rest of the week. Let's take a look at some of those happenings, shall we, with another SHOREWOOD REWIND:

Monday

Alleged child pornographer jailed

Federal agents picked up Shorewood resident Christopher Kice at his home on a child pornography charge. Kice was booked into Chicago's Metropolitan Correctional Center where he was held without a bond. Kice's wife, Desiree Kice, claimed her husband "didn't hurt anybody."

Tuesday

Trustee sour about being called kid in candy store

During a village board meeting, Shorewood Trustee Dan Gron said he wanted an apology from fellow Trustee Jim "Mac" McDonald. McDonald had called the board members "kids in a candy store" for the way they have spent money. McDonald has been particularly critical of the board for buying a pair of brand new four-wheel drive trucks, one for acting Police Chief Aaron Klima and the other for Building Inspector David Myers. McDonald, incidentally, wasn't doing any apologizing.

Thursday

Shorewood braces for swarm of beetles

Representatives from the company Arborjet, a "leader in tree injection," warned Shorewood residents of the sinister emerald ash borer and advised them how to prepare for its inevitable onslaught.

Friday

Drew Peterson case going to the supreme court

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow petitioned the Illnois Supreme Court for leave to appeal the hearsay decision in the Drew Peterson murder case.

Sunday

Happy birthday, Mom.
