A report in the Troy Township Communicator—a newsletter for Troy Township Residents—offers a brief glimpse at the township's history.

According to the report, the Will County Poor Farm opened its doors in the winter of 1850 and once was the home of more than 300 men who served in various wars, including the Civil War. Eventually, the home served indigent men, women and children, according to the report.
