Gun Seized From Shorewood Man Who Strangled Woman: Police

SHOREWOOD, IL — A 36-year-old Shorewood man who is charged with obstructing justice and two counts of domestic battery was ordered to surrender his gun following an emergency firearms restraining order against him.

Shorewood police arrested Alverties White III on Dec. 1, following a domestic violence incident at White's residence in the 500 block of Ca-Crest Drive, court records show. At the Shorewood Police Department, White refused to let officers fingerprint and photograph him for the booking process, his criminal complaint noted.

He is accused of grabbing his victim by her neck, court files show.

Around 8 p.m. Dec. 1, Shorewood police were called to White's house on Ca-Crest Drive. Police dispatchers notified officers that a man in the house had strangled a woman and threw her to the floor. Police were told about a gun in the bedroom safe and that the suspect was in the bedroom.

At the house, officers found White had locked himself inside his second floor bedroom, court records show. White also yelled "gun" twice to the officers investigating the matter, documents state. After arresting White, Shorewood police learned he and the victim did not have a Firearm Owner's Identification Card, the court petition reflected.

The woman was unable to open the safe, therefore, officers could not take the gun for safekeeping. The victim told police that White strangled her on at least two occasions in the past, court documents show.

Will County Jail records show that White was released from jail on Dec. 2 after posting 10 percent of his $5,000 bail. He was jailed again Dec. 6-7 after Shorewood police arrested him a second time, this time for violating his bail/bond, jail logs indicate.

Following his second arrest this month in Shorewood, White was released from detention after posting 10 percent of his $1,000 bail on Dec. 7.

On Tuesday, Will County Judge Dave Carlson signed an order allowing White to return to his place on Ca-Crest Drive. However, White "is to have no offensive contact" with the victim, court documents state. White's next hearing is set for Jan. 18 in Carlson's Courtroom 405.

White has hired Essington Road criminal defense lawyer Paul Napolski to represent him.
