Happy Groundhog Day!
How can you have six more weeks of winter when you've hardly had any winter to begin with?

It looks like a pretty sure thing for the groundhog to see his shadow today. At least if he comes out of his hole in , where it's supposed to be sunny and 49 degrees.
So if the forecast is correct, and conventional wisdom holds true, the groundhog is going to see his shadow, grow frightened and retreat into his burrow. Which means we're in for another six weeks of winter.
But we've hardly had any winter weather at all so far. So what difference does another six months make?

And by another six weeks of winter, do they mean another six weeks of unseasonably warm temperatures while "winter" continues on until the vernal equinox? Or is it suddenly going to freeze and stay that way for the next six weeks? And even if that is the case, it only takes us out to March 15. Which leaves us with nearly another week of winter anyway.
If we had to be on it, we'd pick suddenly freezing for another month and a half, maybe even longer. So that will be nice, if you were dreaming of a white Easter.
