Joliet Man Crashed Into Tree In Shorewood, Arrested On DUI Charges: Police

SHOREWOOD, IL — The Shorewood Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a vehicle crash that involved allegations of drunken driving.

According to the Shorewood police arrest logs, the incident surrounding the arrest of 46-year-old Joliet motorist Anthony Lopez happened on Sunday. At 6:18 p.m., the officers were called to the 900 block of Cottage Street.

Officers were dispatched to Shorewood Park in reference to an injury accident. The officers made contact with Lopez who stated he attempted to drive home. He tried to drift the corner and crashed into a tree, the arrest report showed.

As the officers were speaking to Lopez, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitted from his breath, according to police.

Officers asked him to complete a field sobriety test; he refused. Lopez was placed under arrest on charges of driving under the influence.

Lopez comes from Joliet's 6800 block of Cornwall Drive.

On July 9, Patch reported that a recent crash in the middle of a Shorewood subdivision resulted in DUI charges for a young woman from Plainfield and some residents of Shorewood were imploring their village leaders to take more drastic measures in order to prevent speeding between Route 59 and River Road.

According to the Shorewood police reports, 24-year-old Melissa Zander of Pin Oak Court in Plainfield was arrested on charges of DUI, DUI-0.08 or more and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Zander's crash happened in the 1000 block of Vertin Boulevard around 9 p.m. June 27.
