Man Set Woman's Hair On Fire At Shorewood's EconoLodge: Police

This marks the first mugshot at the Will County Jail for Markeith Reed in more than 20 years. His last one was in 2005.

SHOREWOOD, IL — A 43-year-old Shorewood man who lives in the EconoLodge along the Northeast Frontage Road finds himself lodged in the Will County Jail in connection with allegations that he tried to set a woman's hair on fire.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. Saturday. Shorewood's Police Department responded to the EconoLodge and arrested Markeith Reed on domestic battery charges.

According to the arrest report, the officers were dispatched to the Econolodge along Interstate 55 for a domestic in progress.

As officers arrived at the motel, Reed tried to leave the scene, and officers initiated a traffic stop, police said.

According to the arrest report, the victim told the officers Reed set her hair on fire while she slept, and the officers observed burnt hair.

Officers arrested Reed and brought him to the Will County Jail, where he remained Monday afternoon.
