Two Joliet West High School student Mathletes, sophomore Clayton Pelzer and freshman Jonathan Berry, competed in the ICTM State Math Competition at the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana campus this past Saturday, May 4.
The students qualified for State by finishing first in their competitions at the ICTM Regional Math Meet, held in March at Joliet Junior College. Plezer and Berry placed first with a score of 22 points in the two-person frosh/soph team competition, which requires teams of two students to be the first to finish problems projected in front of a room filled with 2-person teams. Clayton also qualified to compete in the written Geometry competition, an hour long 20-question written competition.
