Joliet West High School Students Earn Journalism Awards

Joliet West High School Advanced Multi Media Journalism and Production students participated in the IHSA Journalism Sectional competition at Naperville Central High School on Saturday, April 26. JWHS competed against 14 other schools and finished in the top 6 overall by placing in 8 out of 14 categories.

 

“This was the first time any of these students participated in a competition like this. I am quite proud of their accomplishments,” said Journalism Teacher Jennifer Galloy.

Seniors Samantha Kessler and Jenny Glasscock qualified to advance to State Final Competition. Glasscock earned two medals, 2nd place for Review Writing and 3rd place for Feature Writing. Kessler earned 2nd place for Yearbook Copy Writing.  Awards were also presented to Jessica Marshall, 4th place Editorial Cartooning; Mike Maticka, 4th place Feature Photography; Lilia Chavero, 5th place Newspaper Design; Natalie Mander, 6th place Yearbook Layout Double Page Spread; and Samantha Kessler and Jessica Marshall, 6th place Yearbook Theme Development.
