JTHS Drafting Students Qualify for State Competition

On Friday, March 7, students from Joliet West and Joliet Central High School competed in the Illinois Drafting Educators Association (IDEA) Regional Drafting Competition at Joliet Junior College. Students competed in several drafting divisions against 10 regional schools and 132 students.

 

From Joliet West, Jose Torres placed 1st in 2D Architectural Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Matt Surges Placed 2nd in Architectural Board Drafting. Both students qualified for the state competition on April 12.

“I am very proud of the hard work and effort put in by Jose and Matt. They will be competing with talented students from all over the state,” said Joliet West teacher Dave Popek.

Central also had 4 students place in the competition. Joe Holmes came in 1st place in Introduction to CAD, Drake Bernhard took 2nd in 3D CAD Modeling, Alejandro Hernandez took 2nd in Architectural 2D, and Jason Smith placed 3rd in 3D CAD Modeling. Holmes, Bernhard, and Hernandez qualified for the state competition as well.

 

“I’d like to congratulate these students on a job well done and encourage them to keep up the good work for their upcoming state competition,” added Joliet Central teacher Dale West.
