JTHS Superintendent Search Focus Groups & Online Survey
The Board of Education is seeking everyone's input in the search process
At the December 18, 2017 Board of Education meeting, Joliet Township High School (JTHS) Superintendent, Dr. Cheryl McCarthy, publicly announced her retirement, effective June 2019, after over 33 years dedicated to Joliet Township High School.
The selection of a new Superintendent is probably the most important decision a Board of Education has to make; therefore, the Board has hired the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) to assist in this process.
The Board of Education is seeking everyone’s input in the search process and believes that all JTHS stakeholders should have the opportunity to contribute to the Superintendent search process by participating in focus groups and/or by completing an online survey.

The purpose of the focus groups and survey is to give JTHS stakeholders a voice in determining what characteristics the next JTHS Superintendent should possess. Once the characteristics have been determined, a candidate profile will be developed and added to the Superintendent Job Posting. These characteristics will serve as the Board of Education’s lens that will be used during all aspects of the Superintendent search.
The focus groups will take place at the Joliet Township High School Administrative Center, 300 Caterpillar Drive in Joliet, on Thursday, August 16 during nine 40-minute time slots that will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Each focus group will be limited to 10 participants so that the Illinois Association of School Boards Search Firm leaders can provide a comfortable setting where open and honest opinions can be shared regarding the District’s strengths, challenges, and the qualities the next Superintendent should have. Spanish interpretation will be available during all focus groups.

All staff, parents, students, community members and JTHS stakeholders are invited to participate in both the survey and the focus groups.
