A Harvey man faces felony burglary and weapons charges after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriends home late Sunday night — and leaving a gun behind as he made his exit, Shorewood police said.
Sgt. Jason Barton said police received several calls after a man smashed a window and entered a townhome in the 900 block of Summit Creek Drive at around 11:36 p.m.

As officers arrived on the scene, 33-year-old Emanuel Washington, of the 14000 block of Morgan Street in Harvey, was exiting the garage, Barton said.
According to police, Washington and the homeowner have a child together. On Sunday night, neither the woman nor the child were at the home when Washington allegedly broke in, Barton said. Witnesses reportedly heard glass breaking, and one saw Washington enter the home, according to police.

Barton said at the time of his arrest, Washington “appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicating compound,” possibly PCP. Washington was transported to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for treatment before being released to police custody.
Police recovered a firearm, which they believe was brought to the home by Washington, inside the townhome.
Washington was booked into the Will County jail on charges of residential burglary, unlawful use of a weapon and home invasion with a firearm, according to jail records.
